Barium stearate, white or slightly yellow amorphous powder, melting point>225 ℃, has a stimulating effect on the central nervous system, soluble in hot ethanol, benzene, toluene and other non-polar solvents, insoluble in water and ethanol. When heated and dissolved in organic solvent and cooled, it becomes colloidal and has water absorption in air. No sulfide pollution. It is decomposed into stearic acid and corresponding barium salt in case of strong acid.

First aid measures:
Acute toxicity: oral - rat LD50: 2506 mg/kg; Oral LD50: 1832 mg/kg in mice. [3]
Skin contact: Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. Contact a small amount of skin to avoid expanding the spread area of the substance. Keep the patient warm and quiet.
Eye contact: If the skin or eyes contact the substance, wash it with clean water for at least 20min immediately.
Inhalation: Move the patient to a place with fresh air for medical treatment. If the patient stops breathing, give artificial respiration. If the patient ingests or inhales the substance, do not perform mouth to mouth artificial respiration, use a one-way valve small respirator or other appropriate medical respirators. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
Ingestion: Inhalation, ingestion or skin contact with the substance may cause delayed reaction. Ensure that medical personnel understand the personal protection knowledge related to this substance and pay attention to their own protection.
Respiratory system protection: the concentration is higher than NIOSHREL or REL has not been established, and at any detectable concentration: self portable positive pressure respirator, air supplied positive pressure respirator assisted by self portable positive pressure respirator. Escape: full face high efficiency particulate air purifying respirator, self portable escape respirator.
Health hazards:
High concentration or repeated exposure may cause weakness and paralysis of limbs, heart and respiratory system.
Hazard characteristics:
Contact with oxidants may cause fire and explosion.
Emergency Management:
If the substance or contaminated fluid enters the waterway, notify downstream users with potential water pollution, local health and fire officials and pollution control departments.
Fire extinguishing method:
Use dry powder, alcohol resistant foam and carbon dioxide to extinguish the fire. Use foggy water to cool exposed containers beyond the safe explosion-proof distance. If the cooling water flow does not work (the discharge volume and tone increase, the tank body changes color or has any signs of deformation), evacuate to a safe area immediately.
